Wine of the Month
CONO SUR BICYCLE PINOT NOIR, CHILE €8.50
Here we have a Chilean red which can be cooled so it’s ideal for a scorching month like August, plus it’s a great choice for robust fish dishes and grilled white meats. By now, many of us are pretty fed up of bbqs and the heat does nothing for inspiration on the cooking front, but there’s no harm in ordering in now and again and this Pinot Noir loves pizza with mushrooms on it and sushi.
Purple red in colour with plenty of rich fruit notes of cherry, raspberry, plum and strawberry on the nose. Certainly New World in style with its sweet fruit attack on the mouth, but it is also very elegant, pure and simple.
We always wondered what the bicycle meant for this range of wines, which actually consists of approximately 10 different varieties including white and rose, and it basically ‘symbolises Cono Sur’s spirit of innovation, passion, commitment and respect for the environment’.
The winery Cono Sur, (South America’s Southern Cone) is one of the largest Pinot Noir producers in the world. It harvests 1,400 hectares of vineyards from 100 different estates and its goal from day one has been to produce expressive and innovative wines from one of the world’s Southernmost wine regions.
Their motto: ‘no family trees, no dusty bottles, just quality wine.’
From the bicycle range, Anglo Wines also stocks a Chardonnay, a Carmenere and a Pinot Noir Reserva.
